Wheat is the Staff of Life

The good news for students who have decided to cook their own meals is that the very ingredient that will fill them up is the least expensive and comes in many different forms. There is Bread Noodles Cereal Sweets: Doughnuts, cakes, & cookies Today's recipe is a basic mix from which other wheat(bread) meals can be made. Some of you may want to make this when you are at home the next time. If you don't have a large Tupperware container to keep your mix in, it will keep just fine in a couple of large ziplock bags. Biscuit Mix 2 1/4 C Shortening Cut into 12 Cups Flour (7 White 5 WholeWheat is a healthy choice) 1/2 Cup Baking Powder 1 T Salt 1/2 C Sugar (granulated) or (/Brown)--Like it sweeter? use 1 Cup of sugar 2 C Non Instant Powdered Milk or you could use 2 quart pkgs of Instant Milk                                                    No...

Dutch Sugar Cookies - Okie Toast

College students have the choice of eating at the cafeteria or cooking for themselves. Both cost money but cooking in a dorm room takes planning and time. Dutch Sugar Cookies You will need Bread, Soften Butter & White Sugar: Spread the soft butter/margarine on one side of a slice of bread. Put about a 1/4 C of Sugar into a cup and pour evenly on the buttered bread. See the illustration picture below. No cooking, just eat. Now if it is winter and you're up to a little cookin' try Okie Toast. All the ingredients are the same but you will also need cinnamon. Spread the bread with butter. Mix the 1/4 C sugar and a (t)-teaspoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle on your bread. Turn your oven on to broiler and slide the toast under the heat for a minute or two.
